JTF warns of planned attacks on civilians during Eid El Kabir, issues safety advisory

The Headquarters of the Northeast Joint Task Force (JTF), Operation HADIN KAI (OPHK), has released an urgent security advisory alerting the public to planned isolated terrorist attacks targeting civilians in Northeast Nigeria during the forthcoming Eid El Kabir celebrations.

According to military intelligence, remnants of Boko Haram and the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) aim to take advantage of the festive season by deploying suicide bombers and Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs), with a particular focus on densely populated civilian areas.

The Theatre Command, under the leadership of spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Sani Uba, has significantly forward-deployed troops and activated surveillance resources across vulnerable regions, while issuing the following mandatory safety guidelines to the public:

Localize Festivities: Hold Eid prayers and celebrations as close to your residence and familiar neighborhood as possible, steering clear of large open spaces.

Avoid Crowded Profiles: Maintain heightened vigilance in high-risk areas, particularly

markets, motor parks, banking halls, and central prayer grounds.

Report Instantly: Immediately report unattended items, unfamiliar individuals, or unusual activities to the nearest military checkpoint, police station, or civil-military liaison center.

Restrict Night Travel: Limit unnecessary travel, especially at night or in areas with minimal security presence.

Cooperate with Screenings: Fully comply with security personnel during routine patrols and checkpoint screening operations.

Kill the Rumors: Refrain from disseminating unverified information or social media rumors that could incite public panic. Depend solely on official government channels. Community leaders, traditional rulers, and religious stakeholders are strongly encouraged to collaborate closely with security forces to ensure a peaceful and safe holiday.
