Zidane Confirms Ambition To Coach France

Zinedine Zidane has confirmed his ambition to coach the France national team in the future.

“I’m sure I’ll get back into coaching,” Zidane said at an event organised by Italian sports daily La Gazzetta dello Sport.

Didier Deschamps, the current coach, is set to step down after the 2026 FIFA World Cup, and Zidane is widely considered a favorite to succeed him. Zidane has been without a coaching role since leaving Real Madrid in 2021. He led Real Madrid to three consecutive Champions League titles, two La Liga titles, and other honors during his two stints at the club.

“The most important thing is to have a passion for football and to want to pass on something to your players, what you have in you, deep within you,” added Zidane.

While Zidane has no experience managing a national team, his impressive track record at Real Madrid and his iconic status within French football make him a strong contender for the role. Some believe his appointment would be inevitable, given the strong connection and history he shares with the national team as both a player and a captain.

However, the France Football Federation has not yet made any official commitments regarding Deschamps' successor. Zidane has expressed his desire to take on the role "one day" but did not confirm if he was hoping to take over immediately after Deschamps' departure.
