New panda arrivals touch down in Atlanta, becoming the U.S.'s newest

On Sunday, September 27, 2026, two new giant pandas officially arrived at Zoo Atlanta following a 16-hour journey from China.
The two bears—a 6-year-old male designated Ping Ping and a 6-year-old female designated Fu Shuang—landed at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport aboard a dedicated "FedEx Panda Express" Boeing 777 flight originating from Chengdu. Their arrival signifies the commencement of a 10-year conservation partnership with the China Wildlife Conservation Association.
However, the pandas are not yet accessible to the public. In accordance with standard safety protocols, Ping Ping and Fu Shuang are presently undergoing a mandatory one-month quarantine within a secure section of the zoo's giant panda complex to acclimate and verify their health status. 
Zoo Atlanta will communicate their official public debut date following the completion of the quarantine period.
The pandas are accommodated in specialized, immersive habitats engineered to emulate their natural environments while providing visitors with exceptional close-up viewing experiences. For those planning to visit the new arrivals, advance ticket reservations are strongly advised given the exhibit's anticipated popularity.

Zoo Atlanta's initial giant panda agreement with China, established in 1999 and concluded in 2024, yielded a remarkably successful 25-year partnership, during which seven offspring were born to the pair Lun Lun and Yang Yang between 2006 and 2016.
