Hamas ‘Agreeing To Very Important Things’ Says Trump

Speaking on October 6, 2025, U.S. President Donald Trump said that Hamas is "agreeing to things that are very important" in negotiations over a Gaza ceasefire and hostage exchange deal. Indirect talks between Israeli and Hamas delegations began in Egypt that same day regarding Trump's 20-point peace plan.

“I have red lines; if certain things aren’t met, we’re not going to do it,” Trump told reporters in the Oval Office when asked if he had preconditions, including Hamas agreeing to disarm."

“But I think we’re doing very well, and I think Hamas has been agreeing to things that are very important."

“I think we’re going to have a deal. It’s a hard thing for me to say that when for years and years they’ve been trying to have a deal,” Trump said.

Trump's remarks came after Hamas issued a statement on October 3 accepting some parts of the proposed deal, including the release of all remaining Israeli hostages in exchange for Palestinian prisoners. Hamas noted that other aspects of the plan would require further talks.

Trump's 20-point plan, unveiled in late September, includes an immediate ceasefire, a hostage-for-prisoner exchange, a staged Israeli withdrawal, and the formation of a temporary, independent Palestinian government in Gaza. It also called for Hamas to disarm, a point the group has not agreed to.

When asked if the U.S. had red lines in the negotiations, such as requiring Hamas to disarm, Trump said, "If certain things aren't met, we're not going to do it".

Trump also denied an Axios report that he had told Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to stop being "f*cking negative" about the deal. Trump insisted that Netanyahu has been "very positive" about the deal.

Following Hamas's initial response on October 3, Trump called on Israel to stop bombing Gaza to allow the safe release of hostages. The negotiations were initiated after nearly two years of war that began with the Hamas-led attacks on October 7, 2023.
