Iran strikes back after US attacks on oil tankers

 

On Sunday, Iran announced that its forces had engaged a US naval drone attempting to enter the Strait of Hormuz, shortly after retaliating against ships in response to American strikes on three oil tankers. 

This latest series of confrontations, which commenced with US airstrikes last week, occurs amidst a stalemate in their ongoing six-month conflict.

Iran has sustained its control over the crucial Strait of Hormuz, while the United States continues its counter-blockade of Iranian ports. Additionally, Washington is striving to suffocate Iran’s economy by imposing sanctions on entities with financial connections to the Islamic Republic, aiming to compel it into compliance.

The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, which serves as the ideological branch of Iran’s military, stated on Sunday that it “attacked an American military unmanned surface vessel” that was trying to enter the strait, as reported by state television.

Earlier in the day, the IRGC announced that its naval forces had “targeted three oil tankers on the unauthorized route of the Strait of Hormuz and three vessels associated with the child-killing America in other regions.” It cautioned ships against attempting to navigate through unapproved routes.
