Chelsea charged by FA over discriminatory chanting

The Football Association (FA) has formally charged Chelsea FC with violating FA Rule E21 following reports of discriminatory chanting from their supporters. 

The charge relates to incidents that took place during the ninth minute of Chelsea's 3-2 Premier League win against Fulham at Craven Cottage on August 24, 2026. 


The FA's statement indicates that the club neglected to maintain orderly conduct among its spectators, with the chants containing inappropriate, offensive, or insulting language referencing "religion or belief". Following their 3-2 victory at Craven Cottage on August 24, Chelsea reached out to supporters, confirming they had received "numerous complaints regarding sectarian chanting from a minority" of attendees. 


The club emphasized their zero-tolerance stance toward discriminatory chants and pledged that offending fans would face "the most severe disciplinary measures". An FA spokesperson issued this statement: "Chelsea FC has been charged with breaching FA Rule E21 during the ninth minute of its Premier League match against Fulham FC on 24 August. 


In 2021, Chelsea condemned a supporter whose social media posts contained sectarian abuse directed at Aston Villa's Scottish player John McGinn.
Currently sitting 10th in the Premier League standings with seven points from their opening five matches, Chelsea now faces this disciplinary challenge.
