Bomb blast on minibus near Damascus leaves two dead and 13 hurt

 

At least two individuals lost their lives, and between 13 and 14 others sustained injuries following the detonation of an explosive device within a minibus taxi on the night of Thursday, August 6, 2026. 

This incident took place in Jaramana, a suburb situated on the outskirts of Damascus, Syria's capital, which predominantly comprises Druze and Christian residents.

Initial reports from state-run media suggest that a bomb was intentionally placed either inside or on the vehicle. Photographs from the scene depicted a white minibus with its roof blown off and the internal structure completely destroyed. The Ministry of Health in Syria has verified the preliminary death toll and announced that forensic medical teams are currently engaged in processing human remains.

As of now, no group has claimed responsibility for the bombing.

This attack represents the latest security challenge for Syria's new leadership. Since the ousting of Bashar al-Assad in December 2024, the interim government, headed by Ahmad al-Sharaa, has encountered significant obstacles in achieving complete stability.

Damascus and its surrounding areas have experienced several security incidents throughout the summer, including two explosions in July coinciding with a visit from French President Emmanuel Macron. Furthermore, tensions continue to exist between Syria's new Islamist leadership and various factions within the Druze community, which had previously experienced severe sectarian conflicts in 2025.
