Rayo Vallecano Fall as Crystal Palace Secure First-Ever UEFA Europa Conference League Trophy

Crystal Palace secured their inaugural European trophy by overcoming Spain's Rayo Vallecano with a score of 1-0 in the 2026 UEFA Conference League final. This historic victory occurred on Wednesday, May 27, 2026, at the Red Bull Arena located in Leipzig, Germany. 

It represented a significant milestone for the South London club during their first season participating in a major UEFA tournament.

After a cautious and highly strategic first half that resulted in a 0-0 stalemate, the match came alive shortly after the break. In the 51st minute, England midfielder Adam Wharton surged forward and unleashed a powerful shot from the edge of the penalty area. 
Rayo Vallecano's goalkeeper, Augusto Batalla, was able to deflect the initial attempt, but French forward Jean-Philippe Mateta displayed remarkable striker's instinct to capitalize on the rebound and score. This solitary goal was enough, as Palace's resolute defense, led by Maxence Lacroix, restricted the Spanish team to only one shot on target.
The victory marked a definitive farewell for manager Oliver Glasner, who had previously announced his intention to resign at the conclusion of the season. Glasner completely revitalized the historically trophy-less club during his brief yet remarkable tenure. 
After guiding the Eagles to a breathtaking FA Cup triumph in May 2025 and a Community Shield victory in August 2025, the European trophy rounded off an extraordinary collection of three pieces of silverware within a single 12-month period.

Crystal Palace became the third English club—all based in London—to claim the Conference League in its five-year existence, following West Ham United (2023) and Chelsea (2025). By winning the tournament, Crystal Palace has officially secured automatic entry into the league phase of the 2026–27 UEFA Europa League. 
Palace's qualification guarantees that the Premier League will feature a joint-record nine teams in European competitions next season.

  White House   press secretary   Karoline Leavitt    on Wednesday has criticized  the media, Democrats, and likely some   Republicans   in the House and Senate for trying to “sow chaos” in the White House with their response to the   Signal   text chain debacle. Leavitt was asked by a reporter if she would definitively say that no one would be fired after a journalist was accidentally added to a Signal thread with top U.S. officials discussing military plans. Trump signs executive order targeting ticket price reselling

  President Trump signed an executive order targeting the ticket reselling industry during a signing ceremony from the White House. The new order will allow the Justice Department and Federal Trade Commission to go after the reselling industry, which has used computer bots and algorithms to buy large blocks of tickets and resell them at extremely higher prices.  Musician Kid Rock, who also appeared at the Republican National Convention last July, was present at the signing in the Oval Office.  The president also took several questions from the press, including on the possibility of additional sanctions on Russia, immigration, and tariffs. “I’ve spoken to him over the years about it and it bothers him,” Trump said about Kid Rock during the executive order’s signing. “It bothers a lot of other artists.
