Trump labels NATO as cowardly, asserting that the United States is performing well in Iran.

President Donald Trump characterized NATO allies as "cowards" on March 20, 2026, for their refusal to assist in reopening the Strait of Hormuz.

During an event at the White House, he simultaneously asserted that the U.S. military is doing "extremely well" in its conflict with Iran, describing the situation as "not even a contest".

"Cowards" and "Paper Tiger": In a Truth Social post, Trump lambasted NATO members for not joining the effort to secure the Strait of Hormuz, labeling the alliance a "paper tiger" without U.S. support.

He also  criticized allies for complaining about high oil prices while refusing to participate in what he called a "simple military maneuver" to unblock the critical shipping lane.

"We Will Remember": The president warned that the U.S. would "remember" which nations failed to step up during the crisis.

President Trump declared the fight to stop a nuclear-powered Iran is "militarily won" and that Iran's air force, navy, and radar systems are "entirely gone".

Despite claiming victory, Trump ruled out a ceasefire, stating, "You don't do a ceasefire when you're literally obliterating the other side".

On Friday evening, he indicated the U.S. is considering "winding down" major operations as objectives like degrading missile capabilities are being met.

Trump's comments were made while presenting the Commander-in-Chief’s Trophy to naval cadets at the White House.

His frustration follows a joint statement by several European allies expressing "readiness to contribute" to maritime safety without committing to the active combat operations Trump has demanded.
