Man City Beat Arsenal To Win League Cup
The victory marks City's ninth League Cup title and sets a new English football record for manager Pep Guardiola, who has now won the competition five times.
After a goalless first half, Nico O'Reilly scored twice in the span of four minutes to secure the trophy for Manchester City
60th Minute (1-0): O'Reilly capitalized on a mistake by stand-in Arsenal goalkeeper Kepa Arrizabalaga, who fumbled a cross from Rayan Cherki, allowing O'Reilly to head the ball in from close range.
64th Minute (2-0): O'Reilly doubled the lead with another header, this time converting a pinpoint cross from Matheus Nunes.
This was the second time these two clubs met in a League Cup final; Manchester City also won their previous encounter 3-0 in 2018. The defeat ended Arsenal's hopes of achieving an unprecedented quadruple this season.
With his fifth League Cup trophy, Guardiola surpassed the four titles held by Sir Alex Ferguson, Brian Clough, and Jose Mourinho. While Arsenal leads the Premier League by nine points, this win keeps Manchester City's hopes for a domestic treble alive for the 2025–26 season.
