Delta Flight DL055D from Lagos forced to divert to Accra after fire incident
According to the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA), Delta Airlines flight DL055 from Lagos, Nigeria, to Atlanta, United States, was forced to make an emergency landing in Accra, Ghana, on Tuesday, September 23, 2025, due to an oven fire on board.
While the fire was quickly contained and did not endanger passengers, the delay caused the crew to exceed their duty time, preventing them from continuing to Atlanta as scheduled. Stranded passengers were rebooked on other flights, including a Delta Accra-New York flight and flights with other airlines like Air France, British Airways, KLM, and Lufthansa. Flight DL055 finally departed from Accra on September 25, 2025.
In related news, Delta also canceled its inbound flight from Atlanta to Lagos scheduled for Thursday, September 25, 2025. Affected passengers were provided with hotel accommodations.
