Rwandan Soldier Kills Five in Bar Shooting

A Rwandan soldier opened fire in a bar on Wednesday, killing five civilians in a southwestern town, according to the country's military.
The motive behind the early morning shooting remains unclear at this time. The Rwandan Defence Forces (RDF) identified the gunman as a 39-year-old sergeant.
In a statement, the RDF confirmed the soldier had been arrested and assured that legal action would be taken.
This incident follows a troubling history of military misconduct in Rwanda, including a 2020 case where six soldiers were arrested for allegedly raping and assaulting civilians during the Covid-19 lockdown in the Kangondo slum of Kigali.

The United States said Monday it was revoking visas for the British punk-rap group Bob Vylan, which led a chant at the Glastonbury festival calling for death to the Israeli military. Deputy Secretary of State Christopher Landau said that the United States has “revoked the US visas for the members of the Bob Vylan band in light of their hateful tirade at Glastonbury, including leading the crowd in death chants.” “Foreigners who glorify violence and hatred are not welcome visitors to our country,” he posted on X. The Ondo State Government has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Backbone Infrastructure Limited for the establishment of a 500,000 barrels per day oil refinery in Igbotiri, Ilaje Local Government Area of the state. The signing ceremony took place at the Governor's office in Akure. The Secretary to the State Government, Dr. Taiwo Fasoranti, described the proposed investment as timely and strategic, assuring the investors of a peaceful and business-friendly environment. He emphasized that the project would boost the state's economy, create meaningful job opportunities, and reduce crime.
