NIGERIA: NYSC Releases Postings For 2020 Batch B Stream II

The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has announced the 2020 Batch B Stream II deployment. Authorities of the NYSC released the postings on Friday, January 15 and urged the prospective Corps Members to avoid travelling at night to their various Orientation Camps.
Expected Corps Members travelling far distances from North to South or vice versa were also advised to break their trip into two stages and avoid making one long trip that stretches into the night. The Director-General of NYSC, Brigadier General Shuaibu Ibrahim, gave these directives at a preparation webinar for the prospective corps members.
General Ibrahim also urged the prospective corps members to check the NYSC website to know the states to which they have been deployed. The event with the theme, ‘Protecting The health Of The Nigerian Youth: Safe Reopening Of NYSC Orientation Camps’ also had in attendance the Director-General of the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control, Dr Chikwe Ihekweazu.
According to the NYSC DG, corps members would be allowed on NYSC approved camps nationwide from January 19, 2021, as against the earlier announced date of January 18, 2021.

Illegal miners responsible for Ibadan explosion, says Makinde

  The Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, has criticized  illegal miners for the explosion that rocked the Bodija area of Ibadan, the state capital on Tuesday. Makinde, who visited the scene of the explosion Tuesday night, said preliminary investigations by security agencies revealed that the explosion caused by explosive devices stored by illegal miners. He also said though investigations were still ongoing, anyone found culpable would be brought to book. “Preliminary investigations by the security agencies revealed that illegal miners occupying one of the houses in Bodija had stored explosive devices there which caused the blast. The investigations are ongoing. All those found culpable for this will be brought to book,” he said. AGF Suggests Ban on Presidential Pardons for Corrupt Leaders

  Attorney-General of the Federation Lateef Fagbemi (SAN) has proposed a constitutional amendment to prevent presidential pardons for corrupt leaders. Announced at an ICPC roundtable in Abuja, the amendment aims to exclude corruption cases from the prerogative of mercy. The roundtable, supported by the MacArthur Foundation, brought together legal and civil society stakeholders to enhance anti-corruption efforts. Fagbemi emphasized that the amendment, to be pursued in the next constitutional review, is essential for ensuring corrupt leaders face full legal consequences.
