From Badge to Courtroom: DeKalb Officer Indicted in Decade-Old Teen Assault Case
A former DeKalb County police sergeant has been indicted in connection with a 15-year-old cold case involving the sexual assaults of two teenage girls.
On October 6, 2026, a DeKalb County grand jury returned an indictment against Cameron Livsey, 47, after DNA evidence recently linked him to the 2011 crime scene. Livsey is facing multiple severe counts, including rape, kidnapping, armed robbery, aggravated sodomy, and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.
The incident took place in 2011 while Livsey was actively serving as a DeKalb County police officer. Separate from this cold case breakthrough, Livsey resigned from the police force earlier in 2026 in lieu of termination. This followed his arrest on federal charges for intent to view sexually explicit images of minors.
The breakthrough and indictment were formally announced on Wednesday morning, October 7, 2026, during a joint press conference held by DeKalb County District Attorney Sherry Boston, the FBI Atlanta Field Office, and the U.S. Attorney's Office. The district attorney's office is reviewing other unsolved sexual assault reports for similarities, saying investigators believe there could be additional victims.
Authorities said Livsey frequented DeKalb County parks and drove a Dodge Charger that could appear silver, blue or black depending on the lighting. Anyone with information about Livsey or the alleged crimes is asked to call 404-371-2444. Prosecutors met with both survivors earlier this week to inform them of the developments.
Livsey is expected to be arraigned on the DeKalb County charges soon. If convicted, he faces a maximum sentence of life without parole, plus five additional life sentences and 90 years in prison, officials said. He is presumed innocent unless proven guilty.
