ISWAP, ISIS Cells Crushed in Borno as Nigeria-US Airstrikes Kill Over 20 — DHQ | TRUMP

On Monday, the Defence Headquarters announced that Nigerian troops, in collaboration with the United States Africa Command, executed coordinated air strikes that eliminated over 20 fighters belonging to the Islamic State West Africa Province in Nigeria’s North-East region.
The military reported that these precision attacks were aimed at terrorist hideouts near Metele in Borno State, following intelligence that indicated the movement and assembly of insurgents in the vicinity.

In a statement released by the Director of Defence Information, Maj. Gen. Samaila Uba, the military characterized the operation as part of a heightened campaign to dismantle terrorist networks, disrupt their operational bases, and prevent the regrouping of fighters. "The Defence Headquarters, in close collaboration with the United States Africa Command, wishes to inform the public about the ongoing coordinated operations against ISIS militants throughout North-East Nigeria," the statement indicated.

The military revealed that surveillance operations identified a new gathering of terrorist elements, which led to a series of strategic air strikes that effectively neutralized numerous ISWAP fighters. Officials noted that this offensive is part of ongoing counterterrorism initiatives aimed at driving insurgents from their strongholds, thwarting planned attacks, and restoring security in the affected communities.

Reiterating the military’s commitment, Uba emphasized that the Armed Forces of Nigeria will persist in their aggressive operations to safeguard the nation’s sovereignty and territorial integrity. "Terrorists who pose a threat to our citizens, communities, and national stability will be tracked down and defeated. There will be no refuge for terrorists anywhere in Nigeria," he asserted.

This recent operation follows the confirmation by United States President Donald Trump and Nigerian President Bola Tinubu regarding the elimination of the infamous ISIS commander Al-Minuki during a separate joint counterterrorism operation involving both Nigerian and American forces. Trump referred to Al-Minuki as a significant threat that has now been neutralized.
