US. Pop star Britney Spears checks into rehab following arrest

Recently, several American celebrities have encountered legal repercussions or media attention due to driving under the influence (DUI). As of April 2026, notable cases involve prominent pop stars and sports figures.

Britney Spears, aged 44, has voluntarily entered a treatment facility for substance abuse, as confirmed by a representative. This choice follows her arrest on March 5 for suspected DUI in Southern California, which was prompted by reports of erratic driving. She is set to appear in court on May 4.
On March 4, 2026, Spears was apprehended in Ventura County, California, after law enforcement observed her driving a black BMW erratically at high speeds.
Authorities suspected that she was under the influence of both alcohol and drugs. She was released the next morning after the booking process.
A representative for Spears stated that she voluntarily entered a facility to prioritize her mental health and "put her well-being first."
Currently, she is scheduled to appear in court regarding the DUI incident on May 4, 2026.
A spokesperson for Spears characterized the arrest as an "unfortunate incident" that was "entirely inexcusable." Reports from People indicate that her team and family are developing a long-term strategy to assist her recovery and overall health.
In a similar context, Tiger Woods, the golf icon, faced renewed scrutiny in early April 2026 following reports of a new DUI-related incident. This incident adds to his legal history, which includes a widely publicized arrest for DUI in 2017 when he was discovered asleep at the wheel.
Justin Timberlake was arrested for driving while intoxicated (DWI) in the Hamptons in June 2024 during his "Forget Tomorrow" world tour. Police body-camera footage of the incident was made public in early 2026.
