Sen. Warnock tries to halt Georgia ICE detention centers in Congress

As of February 13, 2026, U.S. Senator Raphael Warnock (D-GA) is leading an effort in Congress to block U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) from purchasing, constructing, or renovating properties in Georgia to be used as new detention centers.

Senator Warnock filed an amendment to a Department of Homeland Security (DHS) funding bill aimed at preventing ICE from converting warehouses into detention centers in Social Circle (Walton County) and Oakwood (Hall County).

The amendment prohibits federal funds from being used for the acquisition, construction, renovation, or expansion of these specific facilities without explicit Congressional approval.

ICE has already finalized plans to purchase a large warehouse in Social Circle, which has raised concerns among local officials about the strain on infrastructure, as the facility could hold up to 10,000 people in a town with a population of roughly 5,000.

Opposition: Warnock stated that Georgia communities do not want "massive immigration detention centers in their backyards" and criticized the Strain these facilities put on rural communities.

Support: Senator Jon Ossoff (D-GA) has also expressed opposition to the Social Circle plan, urging the administration to abandon the project due to its potential to overwhelm local resources.

The amendment is part of a broader battle over 2026 fiscal year funding for the Department of Homeland Security.

Trump signs executive order targeting ticket price reselling

  President Trump signed an executive order targeting the ticket reselling industry during a signing ceremony from the White House. The new order will allow the Justice Department and Federal Trade Commission to go after the reselling industry, which has used computer bots and algorithms to buy large blocks of tickets and resell them at extremely higher prices.  Musician Kid Rock, who also appeared at the Republican National Convention last July, was present at the signing in the Oval Office.  The president also took several questions from the press, including on the possibility of additional sanctions on Russia, immigration, and tariffs. “I’ve spoken to him over the years about it and it bothers him,” Trump said about Kid Rock during the executive order’s signing. “It bothers a lot of other artists.
