Aviation Minister Orders NCAA to place Kwam 1 on No-Fly list over Airport showdown

Following an incident at Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja on August 7, 2025, Nigerian authorities placed popular Fuji musician King Wasiu Ayinde Marshal, also known as Kwam 1 or K1 De Ultimate, on a no-fly list.

Keyamo has criticized Fuji star Ayinde for obstructing a ValueJet aircraft on the Abuja airport tarmac, calling it “reprehensible” and likening it to a hostage situation.
He also faulted the pilot for attempting to taxi without ensuring KWAM1 was cleared from the runway. He directed the NCAA to place KWAM1 on a no-fly list, warning all airlines to comply or risk license suspension.

The incident occurred on Tuesday, August 5, 2025, and involved a confrontation between KWAM 1 and the crew of a ValueJet aircraft.

Reports and video footage showed KWAM 1 obstructing the aircraft on the tarmac, preventing it from taxiing to the runway.

Keyamo described KWAM 1's behavior as "totally unacceptable" and likened it to a "hostage situation".

While the specific contents of a flask KWAM 1 was carrying were disputed (KWAM 1 claimed it was water, while a FAAN spokesperson said it was alcohol), the core issue was the obstruction of the aircraft, according to the minister.

Keyamo's directive and reasoning

Keyamo confirmed that the incident was a breach of standard safety protocol, according to The Guardian Nigeria News.

He noted that the NCAA had already suspended the pilot and captain involved in the incident for their unprofessional conduct.

However, Keyamo criticized the NCAA for not taking similar action against KWAM 1, stating that "what applies to the goose must also to the gander".

As a result, he ordered the NCAA to also place KWAM 1 on a no-fly list pending further investigation.

Keyamo also directed that all airlines (domestic and international) be notified of the ban, warning that any airline that violates the order risks losing its operating license.

Reactions and responses

The NCAA had previously announced a six-month blacklist for KWAM 1, according to Punch Newspapers.

KWAM 1's spokesperson denied the allegations, stating that the reports were exaggerated and misleading and that the singer never endangered lives or breached safety regulations.

KWAM 1 claimed the substance in his flask was plain drinking water and that the situation was unnecessarily escalated despite his efforts to clarify.

According to Punch Newspapers, his spokesperson also claimed that senior airport officials and airline executives had apologized and offered him a private jet to Lagos, which he declined.
