Trump provides an update on Iran and Israel.
As of March 2, 2026, the U.S. and Israel are on the third day of a major joint military campaign against Iran, titled Operation Epic Fury.
President Trump has articulated four primary objectives for the ongoing war:
Neutralize Iran's missile capabilities.
Annihilate its naval capacity (Trump claimed 10 ships have already been "knocked out").
Permanently end Iran's nuclear program.
Stop the regime from funding and directing proxies outside its borders.
Trump estimates the campaign will last 4 to 5 weeks, though he stated the U.S. has the capability to go "far longer" if necessary. While the focus is currently on "the most precise aerial operation in history," Trump has not ruled out sending "boots on the ground" if they become necessary. He claims the operation is "ahead of schedule," specifically noting the rapid elimination of Iran's military leadership.
Current Military Status
Leadership Vacuum: Joint strikes on Saturday reportedly killed Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei and approximately 40 other senior officials.
U.S. Casualties: U.S. Central Command confirmed four U.S. service members have died so far. Trump warned on Truth Social that more casualties are likely before the conflict ends.
Friendly Fire: In a separate incident, Kuwaiti air defenses mistakenly shot down three U.S. F-15 jets; all crew members were recovered safely.
Regional Escalation: Iran has retaliated by targeting U.S. assets and allies in the Gulf, including Qatar and the UAE. Israel is also conducting massive strikes in Lebanon against Hezbollah after the group fired rockets into northern Israel.
Diplomatic and Global Impact
Negotiations: Despite the heavy combat, Trump signaled he is open to talking with new Iranian leadership, stating, "They want to talk, and I have agreed to talk".
Markets: Global markets are reeling; oil prices have surged due to disruptions near the Strait of Hormuz, and Qatar has halted LNG production following drone attacks on its facilities.
