Senate Asks Nigerian Government To stop Tax Waivers For Companies

  The Chief Whip to the Senate, Ali Ndume, has implored the Federal Government to revoke tax credits given to companies operating in Nigeria. Ndume, a member of the Senate Committee on Appropriation, made this known on Wednesday during an interactive session between the committee and the Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Wale Edun. In September, the Chairman of the Presidential Tax Reform Committee, Taiwo Oyedele, said tax incentives gulped N6tn annually. According to the lawmaker representing Borno South Senatorial District in the 10th National Assembly, the President Bola Tinubu administration must take bold decisions including yanking away tax credits given to big companies in the name of pioneer status. Ndume said, “We have to take bold decisions. We talk about tax credit; it’s an expenditure. It should go through the National Assembly. There is no two ways about that. “So, look at these illegalities, remove them tomorrow, please, then let’s move ahead.

JUST-IN: ECOWAS Court Orders Benin Republic To Pay Sunday Igboho 20m CFA

  Sunday Adeyemo A three Member Panel of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) court of justice has directed the Government of the Republic of Benin to pay Mr Sunday Adeyemo, popularly called Igboho, 20 million CFA for unlawful detention. The court ordered that the money should be paid within three months. Igboho had on February 10, filed an application before the court challenging his arrest and detention in the French-speaking country. The ECOWAS court also authorized the country to comply with its order and revert to the court with evidence of payment. Igboho was arrested alongside his wife, Ropo, in Cotonou, Benin Republic, and detained at the request of the Nigerian government. The Yoruba Nation agitator had fled Nigeria after the Department of State Services raided his residence in Ibadan, Oyo state on July 1, 2021.

Manchester United banned journalists from four media outlets from Tuesday's news conference with boss Erik ten Hag. United claimed they had not been given right of reply to negative stories around the club. Journalists from Sky, ESPN, Manchester Evening News and the Mirror were excluded after reporting some players were unhappy with Dutchman Ten Hag. "We are taking action against a number of news organisations," the club said in a statement. "Not for publishing stories we don't like, but for doing so without contacting us first to give us the opportunity to comment, challenge or contextualise. "We believe this is an important principle to defend and we hope it can lead to a re-set in the way we work together." NIGERIA: Army takes responsibility for Air Strike in Kaduna

  The Nigerian Army has taken responsibility for Sunday’s Air Strike that left many villagers killed and several others injured at Tudun Biri village in Kaduna State. This development was confirmed by Samuel Aruwan, the Kaduna State Commissioner for Internal Security and Home Affairs at the end of an emergency security meeting on Monday. It was previously reported on Sunday night during the time the villagers were marking the Maulud celebration to commemorate the birth of Prophet Muhammad, an unmanned aerial vehicle bombed some parts of the community, killing a yet to ascertained number of individuals. Following the incident, the Kaduna state government summoned an emergency security meeting which on Monday was chaired by the Deputy Governor, Dr Hadiza Balarabe. Nigeria: Kaduna State Government Vows To Castrate Child Rapists

  The Kaduna State Government has said male rapists will be subjected to surgical castration as punishment while female rapists will undergo bilateral salpingectomy. The state Commissioner for Human Services and Social Development, Hajiya Rabi Salisu in a press conference on Thursday stated this after a meeting with stakeholders organised by the ministry in collaboration with the Centre for Integrated Health Programs (CIHP). The commissioner pointed out that the punitive measures were contained under the Kaduna State Government Violence Against Persons Prohibition Law (VAPPL), 2018. According to her, the law followed a lengthy process of advocacy, lobbying and awareness raised by civil society organizations in the state in collaboration with relevant government agencies, Daily Trust reports. Also speaking, Dr. Austin Azihaiwe, the state Technical Lead for CIHP said the day marked 16-day activism against GBV, which was also referred to as the ‘Orange the World’ Campaign and began in 199
